Not Into Extreme Sports? Here's How You Can Use Your Action Camera

Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to be into extreme sports just to own and use an action camera. This imaging device can be quite handy in different applications and can do more than just help you take jaw-dropping footages of you jumping off a cliff. Let's take a look at some of the uses of an action camera that don't involve extreme sports.

Alternative Uses for an Action Camera
1. Use as an alternative to dash cam
If you have yet to purchase a dash cam for your car, you can use your action camera as an alternative. You can drive around your area and record any dangerous driving that you may encounter on the road. As a result, you can help the local community by making contributions to efforts to putting dangerous drivers out of the road. However, do take note that action cameras are not really designed for this function so it's still better to get a specific dash cam for your car.

2. Use it to showcase your musical skills
If you have musical talent, why not showcase your amazing skills to the world? You can do this by strapping your sports action cam to your instrument and take videos of your performances from a unique angle or perspective.

3. Use it to know what your pet is up to
Aren't you curious how your pet spends his days? Well, be curious no more because you can use your action cam to see the world through his eyes (if only for a few hours, that is). For instance, if you have a pet cat that consistently disappears during a certain time of the day, find out what he is up to by attaching the camera to his collar.

4. Use it to create films
If one of your dreams is to become a filmmaker, you don't have to invest in expensive equipment just to make your dreams a reality. In fact, your action cam will do. With an action cam, you can take a range of shots without having to deal with huge expenses. If you have a drone, you can attach your camera so you can take awesome aerial shots.

5. Use it just to document your mates' various shenanigans
You don't have to go bungee jumping or paragliding with your friends just to have something to shoot with your action cam. You can use the camera to capture those fun, everyday moments with your mates so you'll be able to relive them with your Bluetooth headset whenever you want.

With the action camera being very versatile, you can do more than just shoot videos of you enjoying extreme sports with it. So what are you waiting for? Get yours now.

More Action Camera Shooting Modes You Can Experiment With

In a previous article, we gave you tips on how you can experiment with the shooting modes your action camera can offer. By exploring the different shooting modes, you'll be able to take different kinds of footages, depending on what you want to achieve. In this article, we offer you more shooting modes to play with. Without further ado, here they are.

More Shooting Modes to Use with Your Action Camera
1. 1080p 60fps Wide
If you want your videos to have a "softer" look, switching to 1080p 60fps will give you the desired effect. Many experts consider this setting as their go-to mode, especially when filming action sports. In this setting, you'll get reduced rolling shutter because of the reduced exposure time. When taking photos and videos at night, see to it that you switch to a lower frame rate to get sharper images.

2. 1080p 60fps Medium
This mode is excellent for slider dolly shots, glidecam, and cranes. It also allows you to take awesome footages when the action camera is mounted on your car. However, make sure to be careful with the point of view (POV) because with medium or even narrow shooting mode, the images may appear shaky or disorienting. Again, be sure to switch to a lower frame rate when shooting videos at night or dusk.

3. 1080p 60fps Narrow
Like the 1080p 60fps Medium shooting mode, this mode is great for taking footages with moving POV. However, when using it with your sports action cam, be warned that you'll see more noise and what they call artifacting. But if you want images that look softer, this shooting mode is also a great help as it makes details look softer overall.

4. 1440p 30fps Wide
Very sharp and very clean, this shooting mode gives you a sense of real POV when taking videos with the camera mounted on your head or chest. While the aspect ratio is limited to 4:3 unless you edit the video with an editing software, this shooting mode is great for taking videos that lets you relive your awesome experiences and outdoor adventures in first person view later on.

5. 2.7K 30fps Wide
If 1440p 30fps Wide offers sharper and cleaner images, this shooting mode takes things to the next level. With a full, wide sensor, you'll be able to take great footages with this mode. Also, if you mount your camera to something steady, you'll be able to achieve videos with really great motion blur in this mode at high speeds or low light.

Experimenting and playing with different shooting modes allows you to take awesome videos with your action camera. So make sure to explore the different capabilities of your device so you'll know exactly what you can do with your camera.
